What manner of persons ought we to be?

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Do we believe this? I mean, do we REALLY believe this? If everyone that claimed to be a christian actually BELIEVED this, this world would be quite a different place.

Some day (soon?) this world will burn up. Suddenly, life as we know it will be GONE. DONE. OVER. THE END.

That vacation you want to take. That job you were hoping to get. The new car you got a big loan on. The house that is above your means. The vast collection of shoes and purses. The expensive nights out on the town. The weekends at the bar. The new electronic gadget. Gone.

The time you never spent with your children. The regrets you never took care of. The 'sorrys' you never said. The sins you did not repent of. The pride you held on to. The ones you left so you could do your own thing. The God you turned your back on. Gone.

DONE. OVER. THE END.

The Lord is coming soon. You never know when the end might be. Are you ready? Your deeds are recorded, don't you know it? Can you face that record today ... as it stands?

Do you really BELIEVE? Get right with the Lord. NOW. TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION. Tomorrow may very well be too late. Surrender. DIE to yourself and live for the Lord. NOW.

  1. Can't say that the world would be much different, but the church would certainly be different/better. Since WWII she has quit looking for the Lord's return. Just lives for the day, like the world. I would love to be part of a fellowship of believers that looks for His return and lives like it from day to day, that looks after each other daily. Hebrews 3:13 would be some way to do church! ~Liz

  2. Liz, you are right about the world not being much different.

Exhort one another daily. Praise the Lord. This world is a wicked place ... it is HARD to be alone. When I was without fellowship, I felt so desperate and weak. Well ... I guess I still feel very weak, but at least I have brothers and sisters around to hold me up when I need it.

    God bless you Liz.

  3. How very true...things I ponder long and hard and wonder at the blindness and 'lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God' all around me...and then I pray that the light of the Holy Spirit will touch each life that mine touches in whatever way He sees best...without my running from the angry ones, or staggering at the sorrow, or stumbling at the sin...
Even so Lord Jesus, come! My heart cries...yea longs for this!

  4. Very true Marcia ... there are a few people my heart literally aches over. The sadness is so deep. But ... the Lord knows this too. He is merciful to give us a chance to repent and turn from our selfish ways to serving Him and bringing Him glory. His timing is perfect. It is so sad when a loved one passes and you know they did not follow the Lord ... but ... He gave them a chance just like He is giving us a chance. His grace that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It is up to us.

Even still ... my heart aches.
