The Wise Man Builds His House Upon The Rock ...

And what is that rock? Most say without much thought: "JESUS!" But is that true? Read the scriptures. This passage comes right at the tail end of what is known as the Sermon on the Mount, which is a whole lot of Jesus' commands wrapped up nicely in 3 chapters (Matthew 5, 6 and 7). So at the very end, after giving all these teachings / commands / instructions, he says:

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

So now, I ask again, what is that rock? Christ does not say, "I AM THE ROCK" ... rather, he says, "WHOEVER HEARS THESE SAYINGS OF MINE AND DOES THEM." That is the wise man that has built his house on the rock. The rock is hearing AND obeying.

And who is the foolish man? Christ says it is "WHOEVER HEARS THESE SAYINGS OF MINE BUT DOES NOT DO THEM." Whoever hears but does not obey is the man who will be destroyed ... "and great was the fall of it." The sand is hearing and NOT obeying.

The difference between the two? One word. OBEDIENCE.

You can hear Christ, but if you do not obey, you are destined for great destruction.

  2. To those reading this blog:

    God, our Father, loves you.

One night my 4-year-old was sick with the flu, and she messed her bed.

She called out for me to help her. In spite of the mess, I held her tight to me and told her how much I loved her and that everything would be all right. There was none of the holding her away from me at arm's length as I walked her to the bathroom. I didn't want to make her feel any worse than she already did. Besides, everything is washable.

It's that way with God. We call out to Him in fear and distress; covered in filth. Yet, He holds us close to Him.

God created us in His image. The deep love we feel for our children is what He feels for us. We are ALL sinners, we ALL break the rules, and yet He still holds us close and washes us clean.

The Rock is Love, not rules.

Keep loving HIM, keep loving your neighbor as yourself, and everything else will fall into place.

God loves you, and will continue to love you, no matter how dirty you are. You are His child, and you are deeply loved.

  3. I can see were processing christians can say that jesus is the rock and it be true. But I think it means something different to them then obeying him,and that is were they are in error. 1cor. 10:4 says he is the rock and john 1:1 says he is the word so lets just say yes it is jesus then that would still mean you had to obey him because he is the rock that is solid. His doctrine is truth and we must obey it to be christians,no picking and choosing , no glazing over, but obey it in full. The wise man will hear and keep his commandments but the fool does not have ears to hear and does not obey jesus .i dont know if you want to post this or you can cut and paste what I said the other day. I have been sick and unable to respond sooner plus im feeling a little cloudy this morning and not sure if this is coming across real clear. Lord bless you. I liked the amish flea market on fb.........thanks for posting.teyo

  4. thank you Teyo. I agree. To the worldly minded professing believer, all they have to do is "believe" (menally) and to them Jesus ("belief" in Jesus) is the rock spoken of. To someone who loves the truth however, they can also say "Jesus is the rock" but they know what that means ... Jesus IS the rock! It's his way, or no way.

I pray you are feeling better?? Lots going on around here these days, including a visit from some people we met at the amish auction. they just left a few minutes ago and it was a great blessing to have them here. (see my fb status I posted on sunday morning ...).

    God bless you all.
